Nothing too major in a development sense but just to keep everyone updated that we have now had the script officially copyrighted via The Script Vault who offer a great service of digitally storing your script in a ‘vault’ which no one has access to, not even yourself.
For any other first-time filmmakers out there this is a really good thing to do for added protection before sending the script out to actors, producers, production companies etc – some people argue otherwise but for the sake of twenty-something pounds what’s the harm?
Once you register your script it is then kept for 10 years by The Script Vault and can be used as proof of ownership from the date in which the script was registered. This can then be use in legal instances if anyone has tried to plagiarise the work as their own. If this ever happens then the The Script Vault are able to prove the date and time of which the script was registered to them and that no one had access to this after that time, thus proving you were the original and rightful owner of the work and the plagiarists have clearly copied the work since that date.
Upon registration you are also provided with a Copyright Registration Certificate so you have a copy of all the details. So it’s just a good idea to give your written work a little added protection and is also a service which is approved by the Writers Guild of Great Britain.
