With the script and marketing examples finished it was now time to meet up with the original team (who have been on this project since it’s inception back in 2010 as a short film!) and get planning for the future.
Today we all met up after a long time off the project…mainly due to the length of time it took me to write the script properly! The team includes Tim Watchorn (Director of Photography/Producer) Thea Knight (Actor/Producer) Holly Jarrett (Writer/Producer) and myself Kelvin Richards (Writer/Director/Producer). The first point of discussion was just going over a few aspects of the script the team were unsure about or had ideas to change. So great conversation ensued as the four of us dove deeper into the ideas behind the script and why certain aspects where there…there were also other moments when it was simply a stupid mistake on my part (naming the wrong character for example! haha) and a case of quickly changing errors in the script.
The feedback was invaluable as always and it was great to hear everyone talking about the characters as ‘real’ people and offering suggestions like “She just wouldn’t say that, I think it would be more like this…” or “There’s no way 2 young children are going to sit quietly around the dinner table! Get them talking!” haha
So I will make these few amendments over the next few days however the great thing for me was that on the whole everyone was happy with the final draft of the script and we’re all now on the same page with how the film should look, sound and feel.
Then we moved onto the ‘business side of things’ and began to discuss budgets, timings and next steps. We all agreed this film wasn’t something we could just shoot on weekends whenever we had a spare bit of cash. No. This was going to need serious investment and a serious film producer on board to bring everything to life.
So after some major discussion we decided that we couldn’t just approach producers with a script and poster. We’re under no illusions that producers get that everyday, and you’re limiting your chances without something more substantial. We decided we needed to prove we can make this film (which I know we can, we just need the investment!) and therefore are now planning to properly shoot one great scene from the film…and when I say ‘properly’…I mean we’re going to shoot it to theatrical release quality! The purpose here is to show potential producers/investors a solid idea of what the film is going to be. This scene, alongside the script, posters, website and social media profiles should be enough to give a true insight into the project and show that we have the talented team to make this a reality.
Onwards and upwards! The next step therefore is to begin creating a crowdfunding campaign to raise some of the finance required to make this single scene whilst alos looking to casting actors and crew to make it properly. With this made it’s then time to ‘take it to market’ and begin approaching Producers and Investors who believe in the proejct and want to see this film made as much as we do!
So to conclude in short…watch this space.
